Jan Ceulemans

Jan Ceulemans is without a doubt one of the greatest legends Club Brugge has ever known. "De Caje" grew in his fourteen seasons at Club to become the face of Blue-Black. With proud stature, piercing gaze, and unwavering will, he was not just a footballer, but a monument in motion. On the field, he combined strength and class: solid as a rock, elegant as a dancer, deadly in front of goal. His header was a weapon, his shot pure, but above all he was a leader. He spoke little, but the whole Club listened to him. Jan Ceulemans wanted to play football in an atmosphere of calm and serenity. That is why he remained loyal to Club Brugge for thirteen years.

Ceulemans had a hard time adjusting after his move from Lierse SK: after Raoul Lambert was injured and he was placed deep in attack, he had to chase balls that were repeatedly sent into space, while he preferred to combine.

After one year, Ceulemans briefly considered returning to his former club Lierse, even though he had signed for four seasons. Out of pride, he stayed. In his second season, under the highly regarded Han Grijzenhout, the Ceulemans era truly began.

From the moment he played in a more withdrawn position, Ceulemans became the heart of the team. He directed, he scored, and never once boasted about his own achievements. He even dedicated his three Golden Shoes to the collective. Entirely in the image of Club Brugge, where Strong Jan became a monument.
