Charles Cambier belonged to a true football family. His three brothers also played for FCB. Cambier was a strong player. Goetinck wrote about him: "I believe that Charles Cambier has not yet met his match. Although he was not tall, his heading was perfect. He had a very good tackle and was rarely dribbled past." Charles Cambier was a player who would not be pushed aside. He was one of the best players in Belgium before WWI and earned 23 caps for the national team.
In 1910, during an exhibition match at the Brussels World Fair, he suffered a compound leg fracture. As a result, Charles could not play football for two years. But afterwards, he returned stronger than ever.
He played his last match in the first division at the age of 41 years and 21 days. For almost a century, he was the oldest outfield player ever in the Belgian first division, until Timmy Simons broke this record on February 25, 2018.
