For fourteen years, Birger Jensen was the spectacular goalkeeper of Club Brugge, known for his signature blonde curls. The Dane proved to be a natural talent, a diamond of the purest kind. Jensen was a showman on the field, comparing a goalkeeper to an actor who must entertain the audience. When opposing fans stood behind him shouting, he would sometimes catch the ball with one hand and wave to those supporters. Jensen will always be remembered for his world-class performance in the 1978 European Cup I final at Wembley.

The Dane's greatest quality was that he had no weaknesses. He rarely made mistakes and thrived in a roaring atmosphere. Off the field, he was unpredictable. In the press, Jensen often spoke out to criticize certain situations. He always prepared for a match in the same way: in the last half hour, he would sit on the toilet and smoke a cigarette.
He left Club Brugge in 1988 to play for K. Lierse SK. After Lierse, he went to the Netherlands, where he played for RKC Waalwijk, and ended his career at KFC Varsenare. He continued living in Bruges after his active goalkeeping career. Until his passing in 2023, he remained a loyal supporter of Club Brugge and was often present at home matches.
