Difficult reconstruction

1940 - 1949

In 1949, Club is promoted back to First Division with no less than eleven points ahead of its closest rival, Lierse.

The Second World War also hits Football Club Brugeois hard. There is a loan burden that requires a heavy repayment program. Unlike during the First World War, football continues. First in the form of an emergency league, then in a regular competition. FCB plays a total of five seasons in the Second Division during the 1940s. New Club heroes slowly begin to emerge.

New club heroes emerge

During the 1940s, Club fans discover new star players at ‘De Klokke’. Marcel Van Vyve, goalkeeper Albert “Berten” Carels, and Lucien Masyn will leave their mark on the future of FCB in the following years.

Marcel Van Vyve is the great-grandfather of Romeo Vermant.

Infrastructure works modernize the stadium 'De Klokke'

The Club board is not blind to the need for improvements to the facilities at ‘De Klokke’. In 1947, 26 floodlights are installed. This makes it possible, a year later on March 17, 1948, to play the first evening match. FCB and the renowned team of the Belgian Railways play to a 3-3 draw, with Club player André Noël scoring a hat-trick. In 1949, a new stand with no less than 2,400 seats is put into use.
